Ukhiya Correspondent: An 82-year-old Buddhist monk, Venerable Shraddhasen, who has been suffering from age-related health complications, has been provided with a surgical bed by the Bangladesh Bouddha Juba Parishad–Ukhiya (BBJP–Ukhiya).
The surgical bed was handed over to Venerable Shraddhasen at his home in Purba Valukia village of Ukhiya on the evening of 5 October 2026. Leaders of the Bangladesh Bouddha Juba Parishad–Ukhiya visited the elderly monk and arranged the bed as part of a humanitarian initiative to ease his physical difficulties.

According to those close to him, Venerable Shraddhasen is currently unable to move independently due to his physical condition. As he has to remain in bed for prolonged periods, lying on a hard bed, combined with the hot weather, had caused wounds to develop around his back and waist. Considering his condition, the organization took the initiative to provide him with a surgical bed to ensure greater comfort and reduce his physical suffering.
Earlier, after receiving news of his illness, a delegation of the Bangladesh Bouddha Juba Parishad–Ukhiya visited Venerable Shraddhasen at his home village in Valukia on the evening of 4 September 2026.
The delegation included Rajendra Barua, Adviser to the Bangladesh Bouddha Juba Parishad–Ukhiya; Lecturer Ranjit Barua; Palash Barua, President and journalist; Madhu Barua, General Secretary; and Suresh Barua, Joint Social Welfare Secretary, along with other members of the organization.
During the visit, the delegation learned about his health condition and the difficulties he was facing. The organization subsequently considered the matter seriously and took the initiative to provide the surgical bed based on his needs.
Leaders of the Bangladesh Bouddha Juba Parishad–Ukhiya said that standing beside elderly, sick and vulnerable people during their time of need is a humanitarian responsibility. They expressed their commitment to continuing such initiatives within their capacity.
